About us
We are MEGGABIOTICS. For nearly three decades, our mission has been singular: to develop safe, scalable, non‑antibiotic biologics that prevent and treat disease at its source. Led by entrepreneur and lifelong builder John Hare, we’ve created a platform that redefines what’s possible—precision immunotherapy delivered orally, derived from eggs, and designed to work with the body, not against it.
We call this new category MEGGABIOTICS™ — a paradigm shift that bridges the gap between a safe food and pharmaceutical power. Today, we’re advancing phase 2 clinical trials for C. difficile, exploring prevention of hospital acquired infections, and opening doors to reversing chronic diseases rooted in the gut.
Entrepreneur. Builder. Competitor. John Hare’s journey started with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and an MBA, followed by early experience at the federal Department of Agriculture—where he gained deep insight into policy, regulation, and national food systems. After 18 months, the entrepreneurial pull proved too strong.
His first venture was a diversified manufacturing company employing 60 people, with capabilities in offset printing, plastic injection molding, chrome plating, zinc and aluminum die casting, and an in‑house tool and die shop. That experience forged his expertise in operations, scaling production, quality control, and team leadership—skills that would later prove essential in bringing a novel biologic to market.
He then acquired his family’s animal feed ingredient distribution business in Western Canada. But in 1997, a deeper calling emerged: developing IgY‑based oral antibody solutions to prevent and treat infection without the collateral damage of antibiotics. That work became his life’s focus, eventually giving rise to MEGGABIOTICS and the platform that now bears the same name.
Beyond business: John’s competitive drive extends far beyond the boardroom. He ran for Prime Minister of his elementary school (and won), later sought a provincial nomination, and in 1984 ran federally in Canada’s national election. Sports have been a constant: he played football and hockey from age 9, was part of the 1969 Canadian juvenile football championship team, and competed in rugby for 39 consecutive years—retiring at 64 as the oldest active player in the province. He still plays hockey three times a week and was part of the runner‑up team in the 2022 USA National Championship (70+ division). John is also an instrument-rated private pilot.
Married for 50 years, father of three, grandfather of two. His credo: “Still building. Still competing. Still learning.”
At MEGGABIOTICS, we saw a gap in medicine: antibiotics are powerful but indiscriminate, decimating the gut microbiome and driving resistance. Probiotics and prebiotics offer support but lack precision. Vaccines are preventive but can’t treat active infection. We asked: what if we could deliver targeted immunotherapy orally, with the safety of food and the potency of a biologic?
That question led us to IgY antibodies—antibodies derived from hens immunized against specific pathogens. The result is a platform that acts directly in the gut, neutralizes harmful bacteria and viruses, and leaves the beneficial microbiome untouched. It’s precision immunotherapy, but oral, non‑systemic, and scalable.
John Hare coined the term MEGGABIOTICS to give a name to this new category. It stands for: Microbiome + Egg + Antibodies + Biotics. The goal was to create a term as recognizable as antibiotics, probiotics, or vaccines—but one that reflects precision action inside the microbiome.
MEGGABIOTICS isn’t an antibiotic, probiotic, prebiotic, or vaccine—yet it can serve as a replacement or adjunct for all of them in specific applications. It works by delivering high‑concentration polyclonal antibodies directly to the gut, targeting only the pathogens causing trouble. Because it’s derived from eggs, its safety profile is essentially that of a food—the only known risk being egg allergy, which is rare and manageable.
Hens are immunized against specific pathogens. The antibodies (IgY) are harvested from eggs, providing a high‑yield, scalable, and ethical source of targeted immunotherapy.
Each antibody is designed to bind to a specific pathogen—C. difficile, E. coli, rotavirus, etc.—neutralizing it without harming commensal bacteria.
MEGGABIOTICS is ingested and acts locally in the gut lumen. It does not enter the bloodstream, avoiding systemic side effects and preserving the body’s natural defenses.
Because the active ingredient is a food‑derived antibody, the safety profile is exceptional. No microbiome disruption, no resistance pressure—just targeted elimination.
C. difficile infects nearly 500,000 Americans annually, with a mortality rate of 6–10%. Standard antibiotics (vancomycin, fidaxomicin) fail in 20–30% of cases. MEGGABIOTICS is changing that.
But treatment is only half the story. The real breakthrough is prevention. Patients on broad‑spectrum antibiotics become susceptible to C. diff for about a month. Daily oral MEGGABIOTICS during that window could prevent infection entirely — keeping patients safe, reducing hospital costs, and saving lives.
Hippocrates said, “All disease begins in the gut.” Modern science confirms that gut dysbiosis underlies a wide range of chronic illnesses — asthma, arthritis, IBS, acid reflux, and even colorectal cancer and heart disease. Instead of managing symptoms for life, what if we could identify the specific bacterial overgrowth driving the condition and neutralize it?
- Manage asthma with inhalers for decades
- Treat arthritis with anti‑inflammatories
- Suppress acid reflux with PPIs
- Never ask “what caused this?”
- Identify gut‑dwelling pathogen driving inflammation
- Precision‑target with oral IgY antibodies
- Restore microbiome balance
- Reverse the chronic condition at its root
We’ve observed reversal of asthma, arthritis, acid reflux, and IBS in cases where specific gut bacteria were neutralized. The implications extend to colorectal cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other inflammatory conditions — all potentially linked to hidden microbial triggers.
C. difficile, ETEC, Salmonella, Rotavirus — rapid, targeted clearance without microbiome damage.
Post‑antibiotic prophylaxis, hospital‑acquired infection prevention, rUTI, travel protection.
Asthma, arthritis, IBS, acid reflux — reversing dysbiosis‑driven inflammation.
Colorectal cancer, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome — where the gut may hold the key.
Disrupt microbiome, drive resistance, cause collateral damage. MEGGABIOTICS: no resistance pressure, spares good bacteria.
General support, not targeted elimination. MEGGABIOTICS: precision strike against defined pathogens.
Prevention via immune training. MEGGABIOTICS: immediate neutralization; works as both treatment and prevention.
MEGGABIOTICS is more than a product — it’s a new lens on medicine. From saving lives from C. difficile to reversing chronic illness that has plagued patients for decades, the platform delivers on the promise of precision immunotherapy in an oral, affordable, and fundamentally safe form.
As John Hare puts it: “The ultimate goal should be, let’s take care of the patient first. MEGGABIOTICS does that — by going to the root.”
MEGGABIOTICS — advancing a new class of oral immunotherapy through clinical development and into a future where gut‑targeted precision medicine becomes standard of care.
